German side at St. Brown? “Never been late”

Football star Amon-Ra St. Brown was born and grew up in California, but thanks to the influence of his mother Miriam, he also has “typically German” sides. “I’m pretty organized and always punctual, I’m pretty German in that respect,” the wide receiver from the NFL club Detroit Lions told Sports Illustrated: “I’ve never been late for class or a meeting.”

St. Brown’s mother is from Leverkusen, his father John from the USA, the 24-year-old likes both cultures. He prefers American breakfast, i.e. “pancakes, waffles or meat”, i.e. St. Brown, to “the German breakfast with rolls and so on”. What the NFL professional misses most about Germany is his “grandparents, who are unfortunately both dead. I always did great things with my grandpa in particular. Bike rides, fishing or swimming, lots of games in the house or building wooden huts in the garden.” Whenever we came to Germany, our grandpa would set up a climbing frame in the garden with ropes to hang on. We always wrecked my grandma’s beloved garden.

The pass receiver, one of three sons in the St. Brown house, hopes to soon be able to play with Detroit in an NFL game in his second home. “That would be great. The Lions acquired the marketing rights for Germany this year, so I thought it could work out now. But things turned out differently. I really hope it will happen next year.” This year, the Carolina Panthers will play against the New York Giants in Munich (November 10).
