Feared opponents at the champs! Cincinnati Bengals visit Kansas City Chiefs – and this record is to be broken

Feared opponents at the champs! Cincinnati Bengals visit Kansas City Chiefs – and this record is to be broken

United States – The first NFL-Weekend 2024 is in the books and several events are already casting their shadows in week two. Among them are three NFL records that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (28) alone could break.

The reigning champions will host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday (10:25 p.m. German time).

Unfortunately, this means that a team that is almost a bogeyman is coming to Kansas City, as the Tigers have won three of their five encounters – two of which were in the AFC Championship Game.

Overall, they are ahead 18:16 in history and – this is currently the biggest factor in Cincinnati’s favor – they have the man on their squad who can give the Chiefs QB sleepless nights.

The only AFC quarterback who has won more often than he has lost against Mahomes: Joe Burrow (27) will lead the rivals onto the field against the champions. On the other hand, Mahomes himself should be highly motivated for the home game. Because he could reach or even break three historic records.

If he does win against the Bengals, he will be the first quarterback, alongside Hall of Fame legend Roger Staubach (82) and the well-known Tom Brady (47), to win 76 games in his first 100 regular season games.

And it is “only” Mahomes’ 98th game – he could also set an NFL record in the next few days.

In his first 100 regular games, he has successfully completed 2,406 passes. He is four short of being tied with Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (36).

And he will probably break that mark soon, because five completed passes seem more than likely. And if two of those passes land in the end zone, the NFL’s statistics department will ring again.

Because then he draws level with Jets counterpart Aaron Rodgers (40) – also in the first 100 games of the season – and also had 222 touchdown passes to his name.

And as I said: Mahomes himself will only reach 100 in the next two games. The record champagne is surely already ready. And here’s another treat for all number fans – but also critics. After one week and the newly introduced “dynamic kick-off”, a total of 1548 kick return yards were achieved. The last time that many were achieved was in game week 16 in 2022. But let’s wait and see the long-term results.
