Padeltennis – Bachl/Unterhuber only defeated by Ukrainian national team player

Thomas Unterhuber from Neulengbach was very successful in fun runs for years and was also successful as a team captain in tennis with TC Neulengbach. For the last two years, however, he has dedicated himself to padel tennis. Together with Jörg Bachl from St. Pölten, he is among the top 10 teams in Austria.

DJörg Bachl from St. Pölten and Thomas Unterhuber from Neulenbach have been very active in padel tennis for around two years. Bachl now also runs the Padel Academy in Stattersdorf (and both are certified padel tennis trainers.

In Austria, padel is still a relatively new sport, but it is rapidly gaining popularity. More and more padel courts are being built, and the next one to be officially opened by TC Totzenbach is two courts on October 15th (2 p.m.) with a big celebration and a show match. “With over 40,000 active players, padel tennis is definitely expanding in Austria. “We are all the more pleased that we are both currently in 10th place in the Austrian rankings due to numerous tournament successes,” says Unterhuber.

He and Bachl were successful again last week in Scheibbs at a very well-attended expert tournament (second highest tournament category). “It was a very well-organized event attended by many spectators, which even attracted international players due to the prize money for the first three,” reports Bachl. A top Ukrainian team with Bogdan Levchuk, a Ukrainian national player, and partner Oleksandr Petrochenko were able to prevail in the semifinals against the Spanish-Austrian pairing of Pujol/Brunner. And Bachl/Unterhuber also had to admit defeat to the Ukrainians in the final in three sets.

The next season highlights for Bachl/Unterhuber are the start of the Bundesliga at the beginning of November, where they will play with the TC Allround Stattersdorf team against the very best teams in Austria, as well as the Masters final, in which only the best eight teams of the year are allowed to take part. “We hope to be able to defend our ranking position by then in order to be able to get one of the coveted places,” says Unterhuber, who knows that the road to get there is still a long one. “Because the competition never sleeps, it is constantly increasing in quantity and therefore also becoming stronger in quality.”
