Gera Zoo receives new food kitchen

GeraThe Gera Zoo is pleased to receive a donation: Employees of the “Elstertal” Infraprojekt GmbH have purchased a no longer needed industrial kitchen from a former café in the city center for 500 euros from private funds in order to donate it to the zoo. The city administration has informed us of this. This will enable the aging food kitchen of the municipal facility in Martinsgrund, in which the food for the animal residents is prepared, to be replaced. The zoo employees are grateful for this support, which makes the daily work of the animal keepers easier, they say.

Work on the Sachsenroda roundabout

Sachsenroda/Pölzig. The northern connection to the Sachsenroda roundabout will be built from September 13th. This was announced by the Greiz district office. For this purpose, the traffic connection between Pölzig and Hartha will be interrupted. The southern traffic connection between Hartha and Ronneburg will be opened. A diversion from and to Pölzig will be signposted. According to the district office, work on the roundabout is expected to be completed in mid-December.

Thursday is cinema day: New films at the Metropol

GeraJulia von Heinz has just been part of the jury for the Venice Film Festival, helping to decide that the great Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar will receive the Golden Lion for his film “The Room Next Door” – the film will be shown in the Metropol cinema in Gera in October. Her own new film is now showing in the Gera arthouse cinema: “Treasure – Family is a foreign country”. The film was partly shot in Gera, and the regulars’ table will meet again for the first screening in the Metropol on Thursday at 6.15 p.m., and the Gera film fans are always happy to meet new people to talk to. Also new in the cinema’s program is a film from Sweden that tells a fine little story of a great departure with calm realism. “Always Tuesday” sees Karin, disappointed with her long-term marriage and her husband, attend a cooking course and not only learn how to bring joy and pleasure back into her own life, but also get to know the master chef Henrik. In the third week of the 6th East Thuringia Documentary Film Weeks, filmmaker Grit Lemke will be a guest at the Metropol. On Sunday afternoon, she will present her book “Children of Hoy” (4 p.m.) in a reading and discussion. In the evening, her documentary “Her name is Hanka” will be shown (6.30 p.m.), about which she will also answer questions from the audience. On Monday morning, there will be a school screening including a film discussion with the director, for which school classes from grade 9 onwards can still register at short notice.

Chamber of Crafts closed to the public

GeraThe head office of the Chamber of Crafts for East Thuringia in Gera will be closed to the public all day on Tuesday, September 17th, due to a staff meeting. From September 18th, employees will be available again during the usual office hours.

New exhibition in the “Culture Corridor”

GeraThe Kulturkorridor Foundation is looking forward to the new exhibition “Creative Horizons – Art Connects” in its premises in Humboldtstrasse in Gera. The exhibition celebrates creative diversity and artistic development in the community and offers a platform for young talents and established artists to present their works and to
inspiring. In the small room, under the motto “Discovering young talents – works from the workshop”, works by children and young people that were created as part of a project on August 20th are exhibited. In the large room: “Masterful diversity”
The works of the Rutheneum’s art class and the artists Michael Fischer-Art, Gerd Jaeche, Frank Lohse, Lothar Pötzl, Ronny Röder and Barbara Fuchs will be presented. The exhibition will be officially opened on September 12th at 5 p.m. with a reception and short speeches by the organizers and artists and is open on Thursdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free. Gera-Ost: District council meets in the Ostschule

GeraOn Thursday, September 12th, the district council for the East Quarter, Leumnitz and Südhang will meet for its next meeting. It will begin at 6 p.m. in the Ostschule auditorium. There are a total of seven items on the agenda, including the distribution of funds from the district fund for 2024. Eight clubs from the district have submitted an application for this. City council of Berga-Wünschendorf meets

Sunday talk about historical building materials

East Thuringian Mineral and Fossil Exchange in the Gera Culture and Congress Center

On Saturday, September 14th, the Gera mineral and fossil enthusiasts will share their hobby with visitors to the Gera Culture and Congress Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will transform the foyer into a treasure trove full of precious minerals and fossils from Thuringia and all over the world. Theatre tips for Gera

GeraThis weekend, the Theater Altenburg Gera will once again take visitors into fantastic worlds.
