Reading time

After the match, assistant coach Dag Demming, who was standing in for coach Javier Garcia Dinis, who was unable to attend due to work commitments, saw many parallels to Sunday’s Lower Rhine Cup match, which was lost 3-1 to regional league team FC Kray. “We started very well there too. But after the first goal, it was as if the plug had been pulled on us,” said Demming. His team slipped to eighth place in the table after the defeat.

SV Biemenhorst played really well in the first 20 minutes and had the match under control. After a through ball from Marc Beckert to Taric Boland, the latter offered Joshua Müller and it was 1-0 after just ten minutes. The guests did not let up after that either, as in the 18th minute a ball was not consistently played forward in the build-up play, so Keita Taguchi had no great problems scoring the 1-1 (18th).

“Self-confidence goes down the drain”

From then on, things didn’t go well for SV Biemenhorst. “You notice how confidence is disappearing. We have so many good passers, but they don’t dare to turn with the ball anymore, they prefer to play it back. But that doesn’t gain you any space. And so a thought process sets in and a disproportionate number of mistakes are made,” said Demming.

In addition, TVD Velbert was very aggressive, which took the edge off SV Biemenhorst and caused them to make more and more mistakes. The visitors completely lost their rhythm and the build-up to the game became much too slow and much too imprecise. Nevertheless, they managed to go into halftime with the score at 1:1.

Cold shower in minute 51

Demming and assistant coach Stefan Wüpping tried to encourage the team to play more football again, but just six minutes after the restart they got a cold shower. On the left wing, a Velbert player made a decisive breakthrough and served Taguchi in the middle, who had no problems scoring the 2:1 (51st minute). The same player was also responsible for the 3:1 in the 67th minute. This time, Biemenhorst’s central defense had allowed itself to be pulled too far into midfield. René Konst was standing far in front of his goal and could only watch as the ball sailed into the net from a height of around 35 meters. “After that, it was of course difficult to come back again.” “The team tried everything again, but nothing more came of it than a blocked shot from Taric Boland,” said Demming.

Yellow-red for Velbert

Even a yellow-red card for a Velbert player in the 77th minute did not change anything. Instead, the hosts increased their lead to 4:1 two minutes before the final whistle. After a corner had already been cleared, it was Stefan Okkert who was there (88th minute). “All we can do now is to train hard to regain the confidence we need for our football game,” said Demming. But the task is not getting any easier. On Sunday, they will face top team Spvg. Schonnebeck, against whom they suffered a 0:12 defeat in preparation.
