Samsung Galaxy S25 performance hinted at by new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 benchmark leak

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is just around the corner: The San Diego chipmaker has confirmed that we will see the next-generation mobile processor at Qualcomm’s annual Snapdragon Summit in October.

The latest leak about Qualcomm’s next super chip comes from leak expert Ice Universe on X. They say the tests were carried out on the OnePlus 13, OnePlus’ next flagship phone. It’s also the chip that is said to be used in the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, giving us a glimpse of what we can expect from these devices.

If these numbers are accurate, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has produced some truly impressive results. The single-core test produced a score of 3,236. For comparison, in our test, the Samsung Galaxy S24 scored 2,235 points, while the OnePlus 12 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor scored 2,188 points.

The multicore score beats the S24 and the OnePlus 12 with a score of 10,049. The OnePlus 12 only achieved 6,525 with the Gen 3 chip, while the S24 narrowly surpassed it with 6,922.

To give a more contemporary result, Apple has just announced the new iPhone 16 range with the A18 processor and we have already seen benchmarks emerge for the latest handsets from Cupertino.

The A18 performed slightly worse than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in single-core performance, with 3,114 points. However, with 6,666 points, it is exactly between the multi-core performance scores of the OnePlus 12 and the Galaxy S24. Still, it is almost 4,000 points below the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

Assuming these numbers are accurate, this is a powerhouse chip, and one that might be necessary given the number of AI features smartphone makers are currently trying to pack into their phones.

In a way, the iPhone 16’s only real competitors are the Samsung Galaxy S24 series devices already on the market, the OnePlus 12, and Google’s new Pixel 9 lineup. However, we’re not far from the Samsung Galaxy S25’s launch in January 2025. OnePlus shouldn’t be too far behind Samsung, as they released the 12 in February of this year, shortly after Samsung’s announcements.

There are a few caveats to keep in mind when looking at these numbers. For one, the Geekbench leaks aren’t always what they claim to be. Several factors can alter the base numbers. Also, this is just a leaked test, so we don’t have any other benchmarks to compare it to. However, if these numbers are even close to accurate, the next generation of Android devices running them will look pretty good. Also,

And second, Ice Universe’s benchmark claims that the phone is using the Android 15 operating system. This surprised us considering that Android 15 was only officially released in early September and is slowly rolling out to Pixel phones first before coming to other phones. However, if this leak is internal testing, OnePlus could have access to a version of Android 15 during development to experiment with on its new phone.

We won’t know until we get our hands on devices powered by the next-generation chip, but this sounds promising.
