UFC Wildendürnbach – Fourth game, fourth draw

UFC Wildendürnbach – Fourth game, fourth draw

There were many new things at UFC Wildendürnbach in the summer. The legionnaires were replaced once again, with Jan Schulmeister, a former professional, as player-coach. After four rounds, the team is in fifth place in the table, having shared the points in all four matches. Curiously, there was not a single (!) draw in the whole of last season. At least the 1:1 in Asparn was a draw of the better kind, as it meant the opponent lost points for the first time.

“It was clear that it wouldn’t be easy, but of course we would have expected more after four rounds. This time at least the body language was there,” said section leader Florian Gremliza, who also knows: “You don’t get any further in terms of points with a draw.” So they are still undefeated, but are about three points behind Hanfthal or the leading duo, who have each played one game less. “In three out of four games you can take the lead by halftime and we can’t do that,” complained the former coach, who is now one of Schulmeister’s “co-coaches.”

“There is no over-the-top team, except maybe Fallbach”

Now they have a free game, and Gremliza is hoping that the competition will also take points away from each other: “Asparn wasn’t dominant against us either. For me there is no one team that is better than the others, except perhaps Fallbach with its virtues and consistency. I think there will be a few results that we don’t expect.”

But it is also a fact: the school champions’ eleven will soon have to score points. After all, only the best two from the 2nd class Pulkautal and the best third from all three participating leagues will make it to the upper play-offs with the strongest Schmida and Thayatal clubs in the spring, for the rest it is just about a starting place in the Masters Cup.

Against the bottom team, Grabern needs three points, just as they do in the derbies afterwards, Gremliza calculates: “Maybe then there’s still something in it.” A spring in the lower play-offs would be a disappointment in view of the transfer offensive in the summer.
