Game, set and Oktoberfest – “Tennis family” meets for the Flötzinger Cup

For many tennis players in the region, Oktoberfest time automatically means it’s time for the Flötzinger Wiesn Cup. This traditional tournament was held as part of the Rosenheim Autumn Festival for the 23rd time.

Rosenheim – 32 participants had gathered on the grounds of the Rosenheim Sports Association. “I was able to play with many tennis friends from the region and still am today. The Flötzinger Wiesn Cup is like a big family reunion of players from different clubs.” This is how tournament director and organizer Stefan Bauer summed it up.

In the alternating double mode, the best eight participants were determined from 32 starters, who then fought it out for victory. Fresh drinks were available during the breaks to strengthen the players. Draft beer from the Flötzinger Brewery and a hearty Refreshments provided by the Hilger butcher shop – two companies that are particularly passionate about sport in the region.

After three exciting preliminary rounds and two semi-finals, the four most successful players of the day face each other in the final. Georg Baumann and Thomas Detterbeck challenges Markus Tschäbitz from SV Söchtenau and Philip Pecher from the local Sportbund Rosenheim in the final.

The 60s double secured the victoryTschäbitz and Pecher did well, but missed out on the title. Third place went to Mondi Hilger from SV Schlossberg-Stephanskirchen and Christoph Krings from Post SV Rosenheim.

True to the motto: “First the work, then the pleasure”, after a short award ceremony continue to the highlight of the dayWearing stylish Wiesn Cup jerseys, which were all black this year, the participants entered the Flötzinger tent at the autumn festival and were welcomed there by Marisa Steegmüller for the award ceremony.

The patron was supported by her children Sophie and Sebastian. The trophies were presented and the winning pair were allowed to follow a beloved tradition.

Tennis rackets were exchanged for batons, Baumann and Detterbeck conducted the band in the Flötzinger festival tent. The participants rounded off the successful day with Wiesnhändl and fresh Flötzinger Wiesn beer. (Tobias Ruf, Rosenheim Sports Association)
