Visma denies reports of double start by Jonas Vingegaard

Reports in two renowned sports newspapers briefly made cycling fans’ hearts beat faster on Tuesday. They said that superstar Jonas Vingegaard is planning the spectacular double of Giro and Tour start in 2025. However, the Dane’s team immediately denied the reports.

Both the Italian sports newspaper “Gazzetta dello Sport” and the Belgian newspaper “Het Laatste Nieuws” reported on Tuesday about Vingegaard’s plans to follow the same path as Tadej Pogacar in the coming season and to start in both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France.

However, when asked by the Danish newspaper “Ekstra Bladet”, Visma PR chief Sander Kleikers indicated that the reports were nothing more than pure speculation. “I really don’t know where this information comes from. It certainly doesn’t come from our team,” said Kleikers.

Rumors about Vingegaard “very surprising”

He continued: “We haven’t even started to evaluate the current season. I really don’t know where this comes from now. It’s very surprising.” The Italian and Belgian newspapers had previously claimed that Vingegaard would like to take part in the Giro 2025. His team will therefore have to look for a way to integrate the Tour of Italy into the Dane’s calendar.

If Vingegaard does indeed ride in the 2025 Giro, it would be a first for the two-time Tour winner, who has not yet taken part in the Tour of Italy. He took part in the Tour four times and the Vuelta twice. His best result there was second place in 2023.

The legendary double of Giro and Tour victory was actually considered unattainable until this year. Tadej Pogacar was the first rider to achieve the feat since Marco Pantani in 1998.
