BJP MP Anurag Thakur over Sanjauli Mosque dispute

Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh) [India]September 11 (ANI): After protests broke out against the alleged illegal construction of a mosque in Sanjauli, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Anurag Thakur on Wednesday said that the matter needs to be investigated and the reasons behind it need to be ascertained so that such incidents can be prevented in future.

Thakur stressed that an investigation was necessary to find out what impact this would have on the demographics of the region.

“We need to look into this issue in depth to find out the reasons behind it and how it is affecting the local people. There are serious reasons for the anger of the people there. Such incidents have been occurring frequently in the last few years. We need to look into the reasons in depth to prevent such incidents in future,” said BJP MP Anurag Thakur.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Jairam Thakur, sharply criticized the government in Sukhu and said the state was delaying action against the alleged illegal construction work.

“Himachal Pradesh is a peaceful state. There has been hardly any social conflict here. But given the situation that has arisen now, the government should have taken active action against it and people are agitated because of the delay. The sentiments of Hindus and local people must be respected… The enforcement of BNSS 163 is an attempt to suppress the voice of the people… There should be peaceful protests within the framework of the law. I request the government to resolve this issue soon if it is an unauthorised construction project,” said Jairam Thakur.

On Tuesday, Jairam Thakur slammed the Congress government, saying that since it came to power, it had not initiated the process of identity registration and verification of street vendors. Thakur said that the due process had filled the streets with unknown people whose backgrounds were not known.

As protests against the alleged illegal construction of a mosque in Sanjauli area intensified on Wednesday, police used water cannons and batons to disperse the protesters heading towards Sanjauli area of Shimla. The protesters removed the first barrier and clashed with security forces as they entered the eastern portal of the Dhalli tunnel during their protest march. The protests were called by Hindu organisations against the alleged illegal construction of the Sanjauli mosque. (ANI)
