Where is Burkhard Garweg? Since Daniela Klette’s arrest, the police have been searching intensively for her suspected accomplices in robberies. An appeal is now being launched with new recordings.

Hanover – This Wednesday, the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA) will release new video recordings of the former RAF terrorist Burkhard Garweg, who has been in hiding for decades. According to an LKA spokesman, one video most likely comes from Berlin, another is said to be from Hildesheim. Since 2015, the Verden public prosecutor’s office has been investigating Daniela Klette, Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg for attempted murder and attempted and completed aggravated robbery in several cases. They are said to have robbed armored cars and supermarkets in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia in order to finance their lives underground.

Klette was arrested at the end of February this year in Berlin-Kreuzberg, where she was living under a false name. The trio belonged to the so-called third generation of the left-wing extremist Red Army Faction (RAF). In 1998, the RAF, which killed more than 30 people, declared itself disbanded.

Several men mistaken for Garweg

In recent months, several people have been checked who were mistakenly thought to be Garweg or Staub. The Federal Criminal Police Office is currently searching for Garweg using a photo of him with two dogs that was found in Klette’s apartment. The investigators were already hot on the 56-year-old’s heels. Shortly after Klette’s arrest, they confiscated the trailer in Berlin-Friedrichshain in which Garweg had lived under the cover name Martin. dpa
