In Germany, the tendency of consumers to choose extra-large cherries is declining somewhat, according to Oleg Bazyuk, a Ukrainian expert and founder of the company Dolyna Agro. In his opinion, the trend towards a preference for smaller, extra-large cherries is moving towards an optimal size of 28-30 mm.

He points out that larger cherries present challenges in storage and production, and that fruits of this size have better shelf life and processability. He also notes the introduction of new cherry varieties from Italy and France that compete with traditional favorites such as Cordia and Regina. There is a trend in the Ukrainian market to select very dark, large fruit varieties.
