M65: Police remain at the scene of the murder in Bury, the public is shocked

Flowers have been laid outside the house in Walnut Avenue, Bury, where Barbara Nomakhosi was found with numerous injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were called at 10.30pm on Friday 6 September after receiving a report of animal welfare concerns.

The murder suspect was hit and killed by a truck on the M65 an hour and a half before his alleged victim was found dead, police said.

The man in his forties is said to have killed the nurse Barbara.

He was hit by a truck on the eastbound carriageway of the M65 in Lancashire at around 9pm and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed between junction 5 to Guide and junction 6 to Blackburn for 18 hours while officers dealt with the incident.

Police found Barbara’s body about 17 miles away on Walnut Avenue in Bury.

It is believed that no other suspects are involved in the incident and that there is no further danger to the public.

One resident said: “It’s horrible and so sad. It’s normally a quiet street and things like this don’t usually happen here.”

“We didn’t hear anything that evening, but only noticed that something was happening when all the emergency services arrived.”

Another added: “It’s just shocking. Everyone is thinking of the poor woman and sending their condolences to her family.”

Barbara’s family released a tribute saying: “Barbara was a caring and hardworking person. She was so considerate and always looked after her family and friends.

“Barbara loved her family and enjoyed working as a caregiver. We loved Barbara so much and life would not be the same without her.”

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Davis, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “I know how much Barbara’s family will miss her and I hope that memories of her can provide comfort as they begin to come to terms with this heartbreaking loss.

“This is a complex investigation which is still ongoing and we remain in contact with colleagues in Lancashire as they progress their own enquiries into the circumstances of the fatal collision.

“We are not currently seeking anyone in connection with this tragic incident and I want to reassure residents that there is no major threat to the community. We will continue to support Barbara’s family and do everything we can to guide them through this process.”
