First date with Sahra Wagenknecht

Dresden/Berlin – Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (49, CDU) met with the BSW chairman Sarah Wagenknecht (55) in Berlin to explore possibilities for constructive political cooperation.

The CDU announced that the discussions focused on the political situation in the Free State of Saxony, new possibilities for direct democracy and the Corona crisis.

National political issues such as education, security and social policy also played a role, it was said. There was also an exchange on foreign policy positions.

In the coming days, talks about a possible formation of a government in Saxony between the CDU and the BSW regional association are to begin.

Kretschmer’s trip to Berlin shows how dependent the Saxon BSW is on Wagenknecht, who gave it its name. During the election campaign, he had protested against any interference by Wagenknecht at the state level.

Due to the good performance in the state elections, Kretschmer is now dependent on the BSW to form a government.
