Man taken to hospital after stabbing in Laindon

Shortly after 3pm this afternoon emergency services were called to a fight between three people in Woolmer Green.

One of the men was described as armed.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been seriously assaulted.

The man probably suffered a stab wound and was taken to hospital in serious condition.

The police were able to quickly identify two suspects and arrest them shortly before 5.30 p.m. on suspicion of intentional grievous bodily harm.

Det Insp Marcus Dodd said: “This incident will obviously cause concern in our community and whilst the investigation is still at an early stage I would like to reassure our citizens that following the swift work of officers at the scene and in other areas of the force we have been able to make two arrests.

“These two men are now in custody and are being interrogated.”

There remains a significant police presence in the area and part of Woolmer Green is currently closed off.

While the investigation continues, the closure is expected to last into the evening.

Det Insp Dodd added: “We have already taken statements from a number of witnesses which has helped the investigation to progress this afternoon and we thank everyone who has come forward.”

“I would encourage anyone who has information about this incident and has not yet spoken to us to contact us.”
