Second arrest in connection with fatal hit-and-run in Lee County

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – A second person has been arrested in the investigation following a fatal hit-and-run crash in Lee County. The Florida Highway Patrol investigation is ongoing following the March 28, 2024, fatal hit-and-run crash at the corner of 40th Street SW and Rena Avenue South, Lehigh Acres.

According to FHP, an unknown pickup truck “turned left in front of an oncoming motorcycle on 40th Street SW” at around 9:45 p.m.

The 54-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 53-year-old passenger was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Both the victim and the passenger are Lee County residents.

The truck fled the scene after the accident.

The suspected driver, Jose Manuel Aguiar-Meza of Lehigh County, was booked into the Lee County Jail on September 9, 2024. Jose Manuel Aguiar-Meza had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for reckless hit and run and unlawful driving.

On September 9, 2024, the suspected driver’s husband, Yurid Gricel Macedo-Velasquez, was arrested on a warrant for tampering with evidence. Macedo-Velasquez was also booked into the Lee County Jail.

On March 30, 2024, two photos of the suspect truck were released. The truck is a 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck (pictured below).
