PAINESVILLE, Ohio (WOIO) – A Lake County grand jury has indicted a 23-year-old Painesville man accused of shooting a teenager in July.

According to Willoughby police, Fernando Alejo murdered 17-year-old Rogelio Cabrera of Madison at around 12:30 a.m. on July 13.

Alejo was charged with murder, tampering with evidence and illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor store.

The affidavit filed in Willoughby Town Court states that Alejo and Cabrera had been living together for the past three months.

“He was like an older brother to him,” said Rogelio’s sister Kayla. “That’s how my brother saw him, too.”

Alejo remains in the Lake County Jail. No next court date has been announced.
