Shock for Putin: Dragon drones burn down Russian positions – videos show flaming inferno

Ukrainian troops are using killer drones to instill fear in Russian attacks. Videos show how “dragon drones” are used to burn down Russian positions.

  • Ukrainian troops throw burning thermite at Russian positions
  • Videos show burning inferno after drone deployment

In the fight against the Russian attackers, Ukraine is relying on unusual drone designs. The Ukrainian troops are not only using a “flying assault rifle” (“Hornet Queen”) but also with “flying flamethrowers” hunting for Russian soldiers. Several videos are circulating on social networks showing the fire-breathing killer drones in action.

“Dragon drone” burns down Russian positions

The footage shows the low-flying drones firing fiery salvos at rows of trees on Russian positions. Later, the entire forest can be seen in flames. They used a modern version of ammunition that was used in both world wars. The white-hot mixture of aluminum powder and iron oxide, also known as thermite, burns at a temperature of up to 2,200 degrees. “They become a real threat to the enemy by burning down their positions with a precision that other weapons can achieve,” says a post by the “60th Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine.”

According to Alexander Dmitriev, adviser to the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this fire-breathing drone is a fairly effective means of fumigating or destroying enemy positions. “Fire is a rather frightening thing even for a trained soldier, when a position is burned out, the ammunition is on fire. It is unlikely that the occupiers have fire extinguishers or something similar with them.” […] Some call this drone Drakaris, others call it Dragon. This drone burns out the entire enemy position, no matter what it is.

“Flying flamethrowers” are intended to stir up fear in Russian troops

According to land warfare expert Nicholas Drummond, the main effect of the Dragon drone may be fear. “It’s very nasty stuff. Using a drone to deliver it is quite innovative. But when used like this, the effect is more psychological than physical,” Drummond told CNN. “I understand that Ukraine has a limited capacity to use thermite, and it’s a niche capability rather than a new mainstream weapon.” He added: “We’ve seen cases where Russian troops attacked by multiple drones have abandoned their positions. The more Ukraine can stoke fear of drones, the better their chances of success,” he said. “Thermite keeps the pressure on.”

“Fifth degree burns!” That is why the use of thermite on humans is prohibited

While thermite is not banned for military use under international law, its use against civilian targets is prohibited because of its horrific effects on the human body. In a 2022 report on incendiary weapons like thermite, the human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) called these weapons “notorious for their horrific human consequences,” which include fourth- or fifth-degree burns. “They can damage muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, blood vessels, and even bones,” HRW said.
