Yash starts shooting for Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana in December, Sunny Deol to join in 2025? Find out more here

The shooting for Yash and Sunny will begin after “Toxic” and “Border 2” respectively.

According to reports, Yash will play Raavan and Sunny Deol will play Hanuman in the film.

Nitesh Tiwari’s masterpiece Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, is one of the most awaited films in the actor’s career. Fans are eagerly awaiting news about the film as the shooting is in full swing at Mumbai’s Film City and the sets have been set up at Josh Maidan and the helipad. Amidst this anticipation, new reports claim that Yash will begin shooting in December this year and Sunny Deol will join in 2025.

A source told Pinkvilla, “Yash has completed several look tests for his role in Ramayana and is all set to start shooting in December 2024. He moves on to the epic after completing a major part of his next film, Toxic, directed by Geethu Mohandas. He is excited to explore one of the most complex characters from Ramayana.” Yash will play Ravana in the film.

The source added, “Sunny Deol is turning his attention to Ramayana after completing his work on Border 2. Just like Ranbir, Sunny Deol has also allotted a lot of shooting dates to Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra for his role in the Ramayana franchise.” Sunny Deol will be seen as Hanuman in the film.

The source also mentioned that Ranbir Kapoor has almost completed his shoot and will later shoot with Yash and Sunny. “He had allotted many dates to Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra for the role of Lord Ram and the duo were extremely professional and were able to complete the shoot ahead of schedule,” the source said.

Ranbir Kapoor will play the role of Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana while Sai Pallavi will be seen in the role of Sita. Coincidentally, Arun Govil, who played Lord Ram in Sagar’s Ramayan, will also be seen in the film. The actor will be seen in the role of King Dasharatha. Lara Dutta will also play the role of Kaikeyi.

Several reports earlier suggested that Kunal Kapoor has joined the star cast and started preparations for the film. A source, speaking to Pinkvilla, confirmed that Kunal was busy with rehearsals and dress rehearsals for Ramayana. However, the makers have kept details about Kunal’s character under wraps. Reportedly, the makers have also roped in Sunny Deol to play the role of Hanuman. However, there is no official confirmation regarding this.

Earlier, a source close to the film had told Bollywood Hungama that the budget for the production is Rs 835 crore. “Ramayana is not just a film, it is a feeling and the makers are leaving no stone unturned to make it a global spectacle. The budget of USD 100 million (Rs 835 crore) is only for Ramayana: Part 1. He (Namit Malhotra) plans to expand this further as the franchise grows. The idea is to take the audience on a visual delight with Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram,” the source said.

The insider further stated that Ramayana requires at least 600 days of post-production work and that the makers are aiming to take Indian cinema to a global level with this film. The release date of Ramayana has not been announced yet. However, rumours suggest that the film will hit the theatres in 2026.
