Bad Zwischenahn/Metjendorf – The tennis men 75 of TV GW Bad Zwischenahn finished the summer season in the Oberliga with the runner-up title.

The state league summer season ended for TV Metjendorf with a 0:6 defeat at SV Nienhagen. The Ammerland team is now fourth in their five-team group with 4:4 points. The Metjendorf team was already 0:4 behind the league leaders after the singles and decided not to play the doubles.

In the last game of the season at TC Südbrookmerland, the Bad Zwischenahner needed at least a draw to defend second place in the highest Lower Saxony league for this age group. The Ammerland team managed this task with a 3:3. After the singles, the score was 2:2 – Peter Krebs (6:4, 6:1) and Kalle Prahm (6:2, 6:4) had scored points. So the doubles match had to be decided. The number one seeded doubles team Krebs/Heino Haake had little to offer against the Bruno Hinrichs/Meinhard Schoon doubles team and lost clearly with 0:6 and 3:6. Things went better for Horst Zimmermann/Manfred Wortmann. “After a self-sacrificing fight, we were able to prevail against the stronger singles players Max Wuttke and Holger Relotius with 7:5, 7:5 after two hours of play,” said team captain Wortmann.

The season may not be over for the Ammerland veterans yet. “Under special circumstances, this second place could even be enough for a playoff with the table leader of Group 624 from the Hanover area for promotion to the Northern League,” says Wortmann. But for that to happen, the table leader of Group 623, RW Bremen, would have to forego its promotion game.
