RG Kar tragedy: CBI questions videographer who recorded victim’s autopsy

Kolkata, September 10 (IANS): As part of its investigation into the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the government-run RG Kar Medical College & Hospital last month, the CBI has decided to question the videographer of the victim’s post-mortem.

Sources familiar with the development said the need to question the videographer arose after investigators noticed that the autopsy was carried out sloppily and important factors were ignored.

Sources added that by questioning the videographer, investigators wanted to find out whether he had carried out the task according to the usual video recording procedure in such cases or whether he had done so in such a casual manner on the instructions of others.

Investigators are also convinced that interviewing the videographer and those present at the autopsy will shed light on important facts in the case and uncover the deep-rooted conspiracy behind the gruesome rape and murder.

The investigating officers are also questioning the victim’s family members and her close relatives to get a clear picture of the circumstances under which her body was hastily cremated, ignoring the parents’ wish to keep the body for some time.

In fact, in a statement released on Monday evening, Governor CV Ananda Bose’s office raised several questions about the nature of the initial investigation conducted by the Kolkata Police before the case was handed over to the CBI, one of which related to the “hasty disposal of the body, disregarding the parents’ wish to preserve it at least for that day”.

CBI officials believe that if the body had been preserved, a second post-mortem could have been conducted, which could have been extremely helpful in the investigation process as more details would have come to light.
