Apple AirPods 4: New design and finally with noise cancelling!

The 4th generation of Apple AirPods is coming! They were presented in detail at the Apple Keynote and we’ll tell you the most important new features.

But it was about time: Apple is finally giving the AirPods 3 from 2021 a successor. At the Apple Keynote 2024, the new AirPods were presented alongside the iPhone 16 and the Apple Watch 10. The AirPods 4 have a new shape that, according to Apple, should fit your ears even more comfortably. The AirPods 4 adopt the open ear design of their predecessor, and the ear canal is not specially sealed, as with the AirPods Pro. The typical Apple “pen” for controlling music is of course also included again.

Apple AirPods 4: With and without ANC

The 4th generation of AirPods will be available in two versions – one with and one without active noise cancellation. The version with ANC combines an open-ear design with active noise cancellation, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Live. The AirPods 4 with ANC also have a transparency mode to allow important noises such as moving cars or subway announcements to pass through despite ANC. Adaptive audio is new. The volume automatically adjusts when you are having conversations or otherwise making yourself known.

Both versions of the AirPods 4 will receive the H2 chip, which was previously only installed in the AirPods Pro. This should make the sound noticeably better and the personalized 3D audio that is popular in films and series is also included. The switch to iOS 18 also brings new ways of interacting with Siri. You can accept calls by simply nodding your head. The version with ANC also receives the conversation recognition and voice isolation features from the AirPods Pro.

AirPods 4 case: With MagSafe and finally with USB-C

The Lightning connector is history: The new AirPods can also be charged via USB-C. Induction and MagSafe are other charging options. Once charged, the AirPods 4 should last up to 30 hours.

When will the Apple AirPods 4 be released and how much will they cost?

Like the iPhone 16 and the Apple Watch 10, the new AirPods will be released on September 20th. The version without ANC costs 149 euros, the version with ANC is a bit more expensive at 199 euros. According to Apple, both versions can be pre-ordered “today”, but so far this is not the case with any online retailer.
