Kamala Harris and Donald Trump face off in debate: Latest updates

The Harris team called Trump “extreme and insane” after the Republican candidate declared over the weekend that he would jail anyone “engaged in unscrupulous behavior” in this year’s election.

Just days before the crucial presidential debate, Trump continued his attempts to undermine the integrity of this year’s election on his website Truth Social.

He baselessly accused Democrats of “rampant fraud and trickery” during the 2020 campaign and warned that the 2024 campaign would be “under close professional scrutiny.”

“IF I WIN, the people who CHEATED will be punished to the fullest extent of the law, including lengthy prison sentences, to ensure this miscarriage of justice is not repeated,” Trump wrote late Saturday.

“Please note,” he continued, “that these legal consequences extend to lawyers, political activists, donors, illegal voters and corrupt election officials. Those who behave unscrupulously will be tracked down, caught and prosecuted on a scale that has unfortunately never been seen before in our country.”

“As we approach the debate, an extreme and crazed Donald Trump continues to escalate his dangerous threats of revenge and retribution,” Harris-Walz 2024 campaign spokesman Ammar Moussa said Monday. “With the support of his Supreme Court justices, who granted him virtually unlimited immunity, and his allies in Project 2025, who wrote the script to give Trump virtually unlimited, unchecked power, Trump is laying out in plain sight how he will seek to rule as a dictator from day one to persecute his political enemies.”
