Apple AirPods Max with USB-C: Price, specifications and release date

After nearly four years without a hardware update, Apple today announced a new version of the AirPods Max. The most welcome upgrade is the switch from Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector to USB-C.

The new AirPods Max are available for pre-order starting today in several new color options, including black, blue, purple and orange, for $549 (the same price as the previous model) and will be available starting September 20.

The AirPods Max, the first wireless over-ear headphones in Apple’s AirPods line, launched in 2020, four years after the company announced its first wireless earbuds. Both the AirPods and the subsequent AirPods Pro have received several updates since their debut, with the second-generation AirPods Pro receiving a USB-C charging case and support for lossless audio when paired with the Apple Vision Pro headset in late 2023.
