Prices of the Plus and Ultra models announced in advance

With the next generation of Samsung tablets, customers will be able to expect a few changes. In addition to a smaller selection of models and a new chip, there will also be some changes to the pricing. However, from the customer’s perspective, this is nothing to be happy about.

New tablet generation from Samsung on the way

The Galaxy Tab S10 is due to be released in several new versions soon. Some information about the upcoming tablets has already come to light. The design of the new generation devices will hardly change compared to their predecessors. This can be seen in images that appeared as part of a leak at the end of August.

What is new is the inside of the tablets. There is a crucial change here. For the very first time, Samsung has installed MediaTek chips. For years before that, they had relied on Qualcomm chips. Since MediaTek hardware is generally a bit cheaper, it was assumed that this would be reflected in the end customer price of the tablets and that the upcoming devices would be a bit cheaper or not more expensive. However, as a new leak now suggests, this does not seem to be the case at all.

First look at possible prices

As the technology site svztechinfo reports, the alleged prices for ten models of the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Ultra are available and a corresponding screenshot has been posted. The prices are in Swiss francs.

Model memory Price (CHF) Price (EUR)
Galaxy Tab S10+ Wi-Fi 256GB 1179 1259
Galaxy Tab S10+ Wi-Fi 512GB 1299 1387
Galaxy Tab S10+ 5G 256GB 1319 1408
Galaxy Tab S10+ 5G 512GB 1419 1515
Galaxy Tab S10 Lite 256GB 1399 1493
Galaxy Tab S10 Lite 512GB 1519 1622
Galaxy Tab S10 Lite 1TB 1829 1953
Galaxy Tab S10 5G 256GB 1549 1654
Galaxy Tab S10 5G 512GB 1669 1782
Galaxy Tab S10 5G 1TB 1979 2113

For comparison: The Galaxy Tab S9+ was sold for 1029 CHF when it was released last year and the Tab S9 Ultra for 1129 CHF. If the new prices turn out to be accurate, customers will pay a hefty premium of around 13 percent for the successors at 1179 CHF and 1399 CHF.

Extent of price increase surprising

If costs are saved by the aforementioned switch from Qualcomm to MediaTek, this will at least not be passed on to customers. I am the opposite. At the moment there is no obvious reason why Samsung would increase prices so much. Even possible inflation in the purchase prices for other components does not justify such a high markup.

As always with leaks and rumors, there is no guarantee that the information is reliable. It remains to be seen what Samsung itself will say about its new tablet generation. So far, however, there is hardly any information from the manufacturer.

Summary

  • Samsung will soon introduce the Galaxy Tab S10
  • Design changes in new models remain minimal
  • First use of MediaTek chips instead of Qualcomm
  • Despite cheaper chips, end-customer prices are likely to rise
  • Prices for Galaxy Tab S10+ and Ultra listed in CHF
  • Comparison shows price increase of about 13% compared to predecessors
  • Official information from Samsung on the new tablet generation is still missing
