Burgenlandliga – First home win: Jennersdorf beat Pinkafeld

Jennersdorf – Pinkafeld 3:0. Before the home game against SC Pinkafeld, UFC Jennersdorf had a clear goal: to score its first home win. So far, the promoted team has not been able to celebrate three points in front of its home crowd. The only win of the season dates back to August 10th, when it beat Parndorf 2-1 away. So far, there have been two draws at home – Kohfidisch, Bad Sauerbrunn – and one defeat – Halbturn.

That was to change on Friday: Mikovits’ team took their first home win of the year. In the first half, it was a balanced party with few scoring opportunities. “More or less a midfield skirmish,” reported Jennersdorf’s sporting director Martin Sitzwohl.

But things picked up pace after the break. Manuel Halb scored first to give the home team the lead (50th minute). But a little later, the blow came. Constantin Dunkl, who had already received a yellow card, went into a tackle too impetuously. It was clear to referee Arif Erdem that he was not allowed to continue playing – yellow-red. Jennersdorf, however, was unimpressed by the numerical disadvantage and even took a 2-0 lead. Michael Wagner secured a comfortable lead immediately after the equalizer.

In the 84th minute, Wagner put the lid on it again: With his second goal of the day, he removed the last doubts about the first home win of the season.

“The boys did exactly what they set out to do, namely to get their first home win,” said Sitzwohl. “Our team put in a good performance, especially after the break, and after the 2-0 I no longer doubted that we would win at home.” The third goal was the icing on the cake. But I think that over 90 minutes it was a well-deserved win.”

“At the beginning you could somehow tell that both teams were a bit afraid of losing, it wasn’t a high-class game. However, we had the chance to make it 1-0 in the 40th minute, but Jennersdorf came out of the break better and we couldn’t capitalize on that,” explained Pinkafeld coach Rainer Pein. For his team it was the fifth defeat in six games – they are 15th in the table.
