Jever/Hohenkirchen – “Our opponents, Auricher TC II, didn’t make the last step to the regional league championship easy for us,” said Robert Meints from the tennis department of MTV Hohenkirchen after the hard-fought last game of the season on their own court on August-Hinrichs-Straße. It ended in a 3:3 draw. In terms of sets (8:7) and games won (55:52), the MTV players had the edge. “We finished the season without losing,” said Meints, delighted with the success.

The two draws kept the runner-up TV RW Loxstedt at a distance. However, the course of the game against Aurich caused some trembling in the well-filled spectator benches. Harald Fischer (4:6, 4:6) and Reiner Meints (1:6, 7:6, 10:12) did not live up to their role as favorites in the first two singles matches. Robert Meints (6:1, 6:3) and Helmut Petermann (6:2, 6:2) equalized. The second MTV doubles Fischer/Petermann lost 6:3, 0:6 and 10:12.

At the same time, Robert Meints/Alexander Scholz lost the second set 2:6 after winning the first set 6:3, meaning the championship had to be decided in a match tiebreak. The MTV top doubles team improved and won comfortably 10:2.

The men’s 50s from MTV Jever are also delighted about winning the championship in the regional league. On the last match day, they won 4:2 against second-placed TV Varel. The Marienstädter team won points in the singles with Eric Menkens, Andreas Struß and Rüdiger Piltz, as well as in the doubles with Menkens/Piltz.

Without losing a set, the MTV men’s 30 team, consisting of Michael Rosenkranz, Eike Büsing, David Brandenburg and Markus Doyen, still undefeated, beat the bottom team in the regional league, TC BW Papenburg, 6-0. With this fourth win of the season, MTV Jever celebrated the league championship early.
