EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick has confirmed his future on the soap and is preparing to make his debut on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 30-year-old Jay Brown actor is currently one of the longest-serving actors in the series and has been part of the cast since 2006.

However, the soap star announced that despite his busy schedule, he will not be taking any time off from filming “EastEnders”.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press at the launch of Strictly, he said: “I’m still here, struggling through. I’ve just sort of budgeted for the next period when I’m going to be really busy and I’ve had to cancel all social events because I’m very disappointed that I can’t go out every week.”

Jamie also revealed that he almost missed his niece’s first birthday.

Speaking about his upcoming debut on Strictly, he said: “I think I was originally asked to do the show in 2018, but it never happened. And then I was asked to do the Christmas show, which I really enjoyed.”

“That’s what made me want to do the main show. For me. It was just like, it’s the people, so when I do a job, it’s not about what I do. It’s the people I’m working on. That’s what’s really important.”

This won’t be Jamie’s first Strictly experience, as he won the Christmas special last year alongside his pro partner Nancy Xu.

“I had a great time on the Strictly Christmas special last year, so when I was asked to take part in this series it was a no-brainer to say yes,” he previously said.

“This is a new challenge and it will be very different to learn a new dance every week and let the audience have their say,” he said, who took part in the festival special just last year.

“I hope to be dancing salsa in Albert Square soon and will be asking my fellow Walford Strictly alumni for some words of wisdom. See you on the dance floor.”
