Record contract for Cowboys quarterback Prescott – sport.ORF.at

Dak Prescott, quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, is now the highest-paid player in the history of the National Football League (NFL). The Texans have given the 31-year-old a new four-year contract worth $240 million (€216 million). Of the salary, $231 million is guaranteed. This figure, as well as the average annual salary of €60 million, are record figures.

“I hope we don’t have to talk about it anymore,” Prescott said on Sunday. The contract extension had been expected for weeks. Prescott will receive $80 million as a signing bonus when he signs the contract.

With the new contract, the three-time Pro Bowler is entering new NFL spheres and surpassing the previous leaders in his profession. “Now we can just look forward and concentrate on the team and the success that we want and that we are working towards,” said Prescott, who started his ninth NFL season with Dallas on Sunday with a 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

For the Cowboys, this is the second high-profile contract extension within a few days. Previously, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s contract was also extended by four years. However, the receiver received “only” $136 million.
