Last-minute iPhone 16 Pro leak promises good news on price and battery life

There are just hours left until the launch of the iPhone 16 range – you can follow the build-up in our iPhone 16 event live blog – and Apple will unveil these phones later today (September 9). The leaks haven’t stopped even at this late hour, and the latest one contains several potentially good pieces of news.

In a post on X, reputable leaker Mark Gurman (via 9to5Mac) claimed that the iPhone 16 Pro’s starting price is unlikely to increase beyond the iPhone 15 Pro’s $999. He didn’t talk about pricing for other regions, but for reference, the current model starts at £999 / AU$1,849 in the UK and Australia, so it could be that Apple sticks with those prices as well.

Before this leak, we weren’t specifically expecting a price increase, but we weren’t ruling it out either, so it’s encouraging to hear that Apple’s most expensive new phone after the iPhone 16 Pro Max may not see a price increase.

I expect the touch-sensitive camera button to be on all iPhone 16 models tomorrow. The narrower bezels on the Pro line are noticeable, as are the improvements in battery life. I don’t expect the Pro’s starting price of $999 to be raised. The focus will be on AI and the A18 chip across the board.9 September 2024

Gurman also claimed that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have noticeable improvements in battery life and that the bezels will be significantly smaller than the current models.

This is in line with previous leaks that suggested the iPhone 16 Pro Max could have the smallest bezels of any phone and that the Pro models could both have larger batteries than their predecessors.

Echoing reports we’ve repeatedly heard from other sources, Gurman also said that all four iPhone 16 models will likely get the widely rumored record button to control the camera and that Apple’s focus at the launch event will be on artificial intelligence and the new A18 chipset.

We will find out very soon

While we should take the above with a grain of salt, Mark Gurman has an excellent track record with Apple leaks, and most of it lines up with things we’ve heard before anyway.

We’ll know for sure soon, as Apple’s iPhone 16 launch begins at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST, which is 3am on September 10 for those in the AEST time zone.
