Baku GP in the live ticker & TV: Chaos programmed / Formula 1

In Barcelona or Monaco, qualifying largely dictates who will end up on the winner’s podium. This is completely different at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on the street circuit in Baku.

For years, the rule has been the same at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and the Circuit de Monaco: whoever gets a place in the first two rows of the grid in the final training session has, statistically speaking, an excellent chance of making it to the winner’s podium after the race. It’s completely different in Baku.

In Azerbaijan, it has become clear in recent years that a starting position in the front row is not necessary, as the Grand Prix on the Caspian Sea is often a mess. There are exceptions to every rule: in 2019, the top three were in the final training session, and one day later, the top three were in the race.

We have taken a quick look at the races so far, with the podium visitors and their respective starting positions in brackets.
