Kimmich’s decisive word in the Ballon d’Or dispute: This FC Bayern star “definitely belongs there”

Munich – After Jamal Musiala’s next gala performance in the German national team jersey, Joshua Kimmich was also at a loss. The DFB captain was asked whether he could understand why his Bayern colleague had not been nominated for the Ballon d’Or – and Kimmich’s eyes widened.

“No,” he said. “I don’t know exactly what the criteria are. Normally the Ballon d’Or should be about the best players in the world – and Jamal is definitely one of them.”

Nagelsmann praises Musiala and Wirtz: “They can do anything”

Undoubtedly. Musiala proved this once again with a goal and three assists in the 5-0 win against Hungary. And yet the Bayern star was not included on the list of the 30 top players of the past season by the French magazine “France Football” – unlike Florian Wirtz, Leverkusen’s double winner and Musiala’s congenial partner in the DFB attack.

“Both have the potential to win the Ballon d’Or. They can do anything,” said national coach Julian Nagelsmann after the Hungary match about his magic duo – and also sent a dig at “France Football”.

The magazine justified Musiala’s exclusion by saying, among other things, that the 21-year-old had not been convincing in important matches such as the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid or the European Championship quarter-final against Spain.

Musiala’s non-nomination caused displeasure at FC Bayern

This caused FC Bayern to shake their heads. “Jamal was one of the outstanding players at the European Championships, was voted into the top eleven and was one of the tournament’s top scorers,” emphasised sporting director Max Eberl. “In addition, FC Bayern reached the semi-finals of the Champions League thanks to Jamal’s great performances. The fact that he is not even one of the 30 best players of the past season is completely incomprehensible to us.

Not just for Eberl. Incidentally, with his public backing of Musiala, Bayern’s sporting director signaled to the attacking artist that the club is fully committed to him. Musiala’s contract expires in 2026, and Bayern will definitely extend it. And Musiala feels very comfortable in Munich.

“I am very happy at FC Bayern and fully focused on our goals with the club and the national team,” Musiala told “Welt am Sonntag” about his future: “I’m not really thinking about where I’ll be playing in five years.” In the world of football, things can always change quickly.

AZ-Information: Extension talks between FC Bayern and Musiala planned

According to AZ information, further talks will take place in the coming weeks, and Musiala’s salary, currently estimated at nine million euros per season, is to be increased significantly. And that would be absolutely justified. Because it is also clear that with performances like against Hungary, Musiala is becoming more and more valuable – and more expensive.
