FritzOS 8.0: Update for numerous Fritzbox models

The popular Fritzbox is getting new firmware: FritzOS 8.0, currently available as a beta under the name FritzOS 7.90, has already received several updates. Particularly noteworthy are the improvements in user-friendliness, which benefit users.

AVM, the Berlin-based company behind the popular FritzBox, regularly releases updates for its FritzOS firmware. These updates not only include minor optimizations and fixes, but often also offer completely new functions.

One example is FritzOS 7.80, which recently brought several new features for the use of FritzBoxes on fiber optic connections. But even older routers that no longer received support recently received a firmware upgrade. Now, according to the Computer image A bigger leap is coming: FritzOS 8 is already on the horizon and the first beta versions can be downloaded. These new functions are included in the package.

FritzOS 8.0: This innovation brings the big update

AVM has released the latest beta versions under the version number FritzOS 7.90, which bring numerous improvements for FritzBox users. The focus here is on increasing user-friendliness. Among other things, there are the following new features:

  • Setting up the FritzBox has been simplified.
  • An online monitor shows both the utilization of the Internet connection and the utilization of individual new network devices.
  • Devices in the home network and guest network can be renamed in the Mesh view.
  • Home network devices can also be assigned icons for different device categories so that cell phones, printers and other devices can be identified more quickly.
  • Smart home templates now allow detailed setting of the target temperature for radiator controls, the brightness, saturation and color of lamps, as well as the exact positioning of roller shutters in percentage increments.
  • Smart home routines can now be triggered at preset or astronomically calculated times.
  • A new option allows limiting the adjustable temperature for radiator controls.
  • The WireGuard VPN now also supports IPv6.
  • The maximum possible number of simultaneous DECT calls has been increased from three to five.
