Sandover Medal 2024: How to watch WAFL’s night of nights live and free

Western Australian football is preparing for the night of nights as the state’s best WAFL players vie for the prestigious Sandover Medal.

The annual ceremony is one of the top events in WA’s sporting and social calendar and is expected to be a hotly contested award in 2024 following a number of outstanding seasons from stars across the league.

East Fremantle ball magnet Milan Murdock goes into the evening as favourite for his first Sandover Award, with last year’s winner Hamish Brayshaw missing large parts of the season due to injury.

However, Murdock will face a strong field in Claremont ruckman Oliver Eastland, who once starred for the Tigers as they turned their hopeless start around to reach the semi-finals.

Eastland was the dominant big man of the competition, getting the job done all over the court, but he will likely lose some votes to his star teammates and former medalists Jye Bolton and Bailey Rogers.

Will Brodie, a Peel Thunder player for the Fremantle Dockers, could also attract a lot of votes as his team is in second place in the table.

In the first half of the vote, he will likely also have some votes stolen from him by fellow Docker Neil Erasmus, a star of the Thunder.

A former Docker is also likely to give the opposition a scare, with Mitch Crowden an integral part of East Perth’s minor championship and set to lead the Royals into the decider in a fortnight.

Votes are awarded by the field umpires at the end of each match using a 3, 2, 1 system. The player with the best score on the field receives the most votes.

The player with the most votes at the end of the 21 rounds is crowned the Sandover Medalist.
