Chemnitz: Risky overtaking maneuvers, threats and property damage

The man was driving along Leipziger Strasse out of town at excessive speed at around 2:30 p.m. He ignored several red lights and “drove grossly illegally,” according to a police spokeswoman.

Shortly before the junction with Max-Planck-Straße, he drove into a closed area to overtake a VW. He then braked it.

“The driver (44) of the VW was only able to avoid a collision with the Fiat by emergency braking. The Fiat driver then suddenly got out, threatened and insulted the VW driver and tried to hit him,” the police said.

The 39-year-old also kicked the VW and broke off an outside mirror. The aggressive man used a torque wrench from his car to smash a window of the VW. The 44-year-old and his passenger were uninjured.

“In the meantime, police officers were able to overpower the aggressive Fiat driver and bring him under control. The damage to the VW, which had to be towed away, amounts to several thousand euros.”

The Fiat driver had to be admitted to a specialist hospital due to his condition.

The 39-year-old is now being investigated for an illegal motor vehicle race, attempted bodily harm, coercion in road traffic, threats, damage to property and endangering road traffic.
