Conference “A Decade of Intercultural Museum Learning”

SHARJAH, 8th September, 2024 (WAM) — The Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) has announced the opening of registration for the 2024 hybrid conference ‘SAWA: A Decade of Intercultural Museum Learning’, to mark the 10th anniversary of the SAWA Arab-German Museum Studies Programme, which aims to inspire aspiring museum practitioners to adopt innovative practices.

The conference takes place in cooperation with the strategic partner Crescent Group and is supported by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany.

This milestone event will be held on 4 and 5 November 2024 at the Sharjah Archaeology Museum and will be streamed live online and promises to be an enriching experience for museum professionals, researchers, students and enthusiasts.

Participants benefit from the insights of leading minds and educators from the global museum and cultural sector, providing a unique opportunity for networking and professional advancement.

The conference will cover a wide range of significant topics and include various panel discussions, keynote speeches, technical seminars and presentations, all aimed at promoting dialogue, exchange and collaboration among museum professionals.

The main themes will address how international collaborations between museums and cultural institutions can improve standards and services in museums. The panels will also feature insights from former participants of the SAWA Museum Studies Program on how the program has influenced their careers and practice.

Discussions will cover museum topics such as interpretation, curation and curatorial strategies in exhibition spaces, as well as other important topics.

The conference will explore the importance of creating inclusive and engaging experiences for diverse museum audiences and explore the use of technology and augmented reality in museum spaces.

Participants can participate in this hybrid conference either online via live streaming or in person at the Sharjah Archaeological Museum.

The award-winning SAWA Museum Studies Programme is a groundbreaking initiative that provides professional qualifications and learning opportunities for aspiring museum professionals.

This joint programme is managed by the Sharjah Museums Authority together with the Berlin State Museums, the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region and the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW).

The programme is curated and facilitated by a distinguished team of Arab and European educators, with a focus on mutual learning and diverse museum practices in the MENA region and Europe.
