‘Don’t blame the police if the results are not favourable’: Bukit Aman refutes celebrity claim he ignored 14 reports

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 – Police have rejected a celebrity’s allegation that they failed to investigate 14 complaints she filed over the past two years.

Bukit Aman Economic Crimes Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said proper investigations were carried out and two investigation files were opened based on reports from Shakib Abu Bakar Banafee, believed to be the celebrity’s brother, and four others.

He said the two investigations were initiated under sections 409 and 420 of the Penal Code, adding that the Attorney General’s Chamber had classified the case as “no further action” (NFA) under section 409 in June because there was insufficient evidence to establish elements of a criminal breach of trust.

“The decision was confirmed by the Attorney General in August following a review. The Section 420 case is currently under investigation,” he said in a statement today.

He assured that the police would conduct fair and transparent investigations to ensure that the principles of law and justice would always be upheld.

Ramli described the allegation, made through TikTok account @bettybanafee, as irresponsible and said the complainant should not make allegations against the police simply because the investigation results were not in their favour. — Bernama
