Doctor arrested for sexually abusing schoolgirls while working for Sadhguru’s foundation | coastaldigest.com

In shocking developments, a doctor working for the Isha Foundation’s mobile medical service in Coimbatore district was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting several girls from a public school during a medical camp. The Coimbatore district police subsequently arrested him.

The incident came to light during a meeting between education officials and students held on the directions of Chief Secretary N Muruganandam. The meeting was part of a larger investigation after four staff members of a government college in Valparai were recently arrested for sexually harassing students.

The arrested doctor, identified as 33-year-old S. Saravanamoorthy, hailed from Tirupattur district and was part of a mobile medical team run by Jaggi Vasudev alias Sadhguru’s Isha Foundation.

These units are reportedly conducting free medical camps for students and the general public across Coimbatore under their ‘Action for Rural Rejuvenation’ programme.

At a meeting with education officials on Wednesday, September 4, about twelve students from grades 6 to 10 complained that they had been inappropriately touched by Saravanamoorthy during these camps.

Immediately afterwards, the school management contacted the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which conducted a survey of the students. The Perur All Women police were then alerted.

The police officials visited the school and interviewed each of the survivors personally. After recording their statements, they filed a case against the doctor under Section 9(e) (anyone belonging to the management or staff of a hospital, whether government or private, commits sexual abuse on a child in that hospital) read with 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual abuse) of the Pocso Act. The doctor was later arrested and remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, the Isha Foundation issued a statement expressing its full cooperation with the investigation and a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children.

“We have been informed that a case has been registered against an employee working as a doctor with our mobile medical service in rural areas of Coimbatore. Isha has a zero-tolerance policy towards any crime against women and children. We are cooperating with the ongoing police investigation and will take necessary legal action,” the statement said.
