Kevin Hart’s Fight Night, Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice return and other must-haves on the EW top list

After a fall TV launch dampened by the one-two punch that is 2023, EW is diving back into what we do best this year, with exclusive photos and interviews with juicy info on more than 75 shows. It all started yesterday with our digital edition of NBC’s Fall 2024 TV Preview and will continue over the next two weeks. I’m happy to celebrate all forms of pop culture in my current role, but as a former TV editor, this edition will always feel most special to me. Congratulations to our TV team for fighting through the tidal wave that will soon wash over our DVRs (do people still have DVRs? Just me?) to make sure you know what’s worth your time. —Patrick Gomez, editor in chiefBrilliant minds

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Robbery with Kevin Hart

“Fight Night: The Heist” with Kevin Hart.

Parrish Lewis/PEACO

Inspired by a crazy true story, this Peacock miniseries stars Kevin Hart as Atlanta bookie Gordon “Chicken Man” Williams, who throws an exclusive party following Muhammad Ali’s 1970 comeback fight. When armed robbers attack the guests – including crime bosses Frank Moten (Samuel L. Jackson) and Cadillac Richie (Terrence Howard) – the desperate Chicken Man turns to Detective JD Hudson (Don Cheadle) to clear his name. The eight-part crime series is a smash hit, with an all-star cast (welcome back to series TV, Taraji P. Henson!), meticulous period wigs, and some hilarious exchanges between Cheadle and Hart. —Kristen Baldwin, television critic

This Netflix survival series – in which 16 people are abandoned in the Alaskan wilderness to survive as long as possible in freezing temperatures with no food and minimal supplies – doesn’t have as many real villains in its new second season. But you will be shocked again by the suffering people endure to be the last team standing. –Dalton Ross, Editor-in-Chief

Some of us thought we would be stuck in the waiting room of the afterlife for decades before we saw a sequel Beetlejuice. Thankfully, it only took 36 years – and the wait was worth it. Director Tim Burton and his cast of familiar faces (including a stop-motion animated sandworm) have recaptured their crazy, chaotic energy and even added a new musical number fueled by ghost possession. —Nick Romano, senior editor
