Gera. Lecture on local poisonous mushrooms, mausoleum on Monument Day, advice for the hearing impaired, career choice test for young people and other news

On Saturday, 14 September, mushroom expert Bodo Wagner will provide information from 10 to 11.30 a.m. in the Gera Adult Education Centre “Aenne Biermann” on the topic of “gift mushrooms”. Mushroom poisoning occurs every year in Germany. Occasionally, deaths occur. The lecture will introduce the most important local poisonous mushrooms and show how to recognize and safely avoid them. It will also cover real and fake mushroom poisoning and mushroom allergies. Questions will also be answered: Which types of mushrooms should definitely be avoided? What symptoms can occur? How long does it take for the first symptoms to appear? What causes the poisoning?

Mausoleum open on Monument Day

Forest house. On Sunday, September 8th, the mausoleum in the Waldhaus will be open for visits from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Waldhaus was a popular place for the last ruling prince, Heinrich XXII of the Reuss Elder line. For this reason, he had his final resting place, the mausoleum, built in 1883. Over 15 years ago, the burial site of the last Reusses of Greiz was renovated by the city of Greiz and made accessible to the public. A small exhibition on the history of the mausoleum, Heinrich XXII and his family can be viewed inside the chapel.

Swiss author reads and cooks

Berga-Wünschendorf. A Swiss author comes to Berga-Wünschendorf and reads and cooks with the audience. Under the motto “Literary banquet on the go”, the Häselburg Gera invites you to the Clodramühle sheep farm cheese dairy on Sunday, September 8th, 12 p.m. There, Lorena Simmel will read from her debut novel “Ferymont” (Verbrecher-Verlag, 2024). About the plot: When she runs out of money for her studies in Berlin, the young first-person narrator travels to her home village of Ferymont in Switzerland to work as an agricultural assistant for a season. There she befriends Daria, a seasonal worker from the Republic of Moldova. Two different realities of life collide.

Advice for the hearing impaired

Gera. The certified advisory center of the German Association for the Hard of Hearing With its mobile “Social Service for the Hearing Impaired in Thuringia”, it is offering free and independent advice for people with hearing problems on Tuesday, September 10th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the rooms of the volunteer center at Kornmarkt 7 in Gera. Afterwards, the self-help group for the hearing impaired in Gera and the surrounding area will meet. Telephone advice is available on Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on 03643/422155.

Career choice test for young people

The Vocational Psychology Service offers appointments in the Autumn holidays from the 1 October to 11 October for a Career choice test Students from 14 years of age who want to do vocational training can take part. Future high school graduates from grade 11 onwards can take part in the Study field-related counseling test in the following areas: natural sciences, engineering, economics, computer science/mathematics, philological courses, social sciences and law.

Lecture with discussion

Gera. The Geraer Gespräche of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Thuringia invites you to a lecture and subsequent discussion on Tuesday, September 10th, at 6 p.m. in the Gera City Museum. The discussion partner is Dr. phil. Bernd Stoppe. He studied philosophy in Leipzig and researched and taught on questions of religious criticism and religious politics. Immanuel Kant’s (1724-1804) 300th birthday is another reason to discuss the basic theses of his “revolution in thought” and its social effects.
