Agassi praises the epic duel between Fritz and Tiafoe at the US Open

Andre Agassi shares his thoughts on the US Open semifinal between Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. Fritz’s qualification marks the first time a homegrown player has reached the final at Flushing Meadows since Andy Roddick lost to Roger Federer in the 2006 final.

It was already known that an American would be in the final after Tiafoe defeated Grigor Dimitrov and Fritz beat Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. However, it was not yet clear which of them would reach their first Grand Slam final. Although Big-Foe was two sets up, Fritz held his nerve at Arthur Ashe Stadium to secure a 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory.

The match was a celebration for the home crowd, who unexpectedly saw two of their representatives compete in the semi-finals. Fritz will face world number one Jannik Sinner in the final, who is aiming for his second Grand Slam title.

After the world number 12’s victory, Andre Agassi commented on an Instagram post by Tennis TV in which he gave his verdict on the exciting duel on Friday evening: “They fought” – Andre Agassi commented on a collage of Fritz and Tiafoe.

Agassi won the US Open title in 1994 and 1999 and was runner-up in 1990, 1995, 2002 and 2005. The former world number one secured 8 Grand Slam titles in his career, which together with Jimmy Connors means the second most major titles for the United States behind Pete Sampras’ 14.

Fritz achieved one of the most significant victories of his career by defeating an inspired Tiafoe. After the duel, the American No. 1 spoke tearfully about his emotions in an interview on the court: “That’s the reason why I do what I do, the reason why I’ve worked so hard. I’m in the final of the US Open, a dream come true and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. I know that for sure.”
