Demos against right-wing extremism and AfD before the election

Two weeks before the state elections, people in several cities in Brandenburg took to the streets to protest against right-wing extremism and the AfD. According to initial findings, the Brandenburg police reported a calm situation. “There were no major riots,” said a spokesman.

“Stay stable. “Together for democracy” was the motto of a rally by the “Frankfurt stays colorful” network in Frankfurt (Oder), which was to last until 9 p.m. The European University Viadrina also supports the cause of defending democracy, cosmopolitanism and tolerance, it was said on Platform X. In Templin, where AfD politicians invited people to a summer festival on the market square, there was a protest demonstration in the afternoon.

Before the state elections on September 22nd, demonstrations are to take place in other cities – for example in Oranienburg, Eberswalde, Neuruppin, Cottbus and Potsdam. The far-right AfD party is ahead in opinion polls.
