Darts: Schedule for Saturday evening at the Flanders Darts Trophy 2024 with Schindler, Clemens and Pietreczko

Darts: Schedule for Saturday evening at the Flanders Darts Trophy 2024 with Schindler, Clemens and Pietreczko

A glorious line-up is set to take place in the finals of the second round of the Flanders Darts Trophy on Saturday evening. No fewer than five (former) world champions will be in action at the PDC European Tour tournament in Antwerp.

We start the evening session with an attractive match between Stephen Bunting and Scott Williams. The latter made his mark on Friday when he defeated Marko Kantele 6-3 with an average of 100.73. It will be Bunting’s first match of the tournament. The Bullet has already reached his second semi-final on the European Tour this season, but the last one was in April.

Gerwyn Price will take on Luke Woodhouse in the second match of the evening, with The Iceman set to face Luke Woodhouse after a good first-round performance saw Woodhouse prove too strong for Luc Bogaert (6-3). Price has lost his first match at each of the last two European Tour tournaments, so the former World Champion will certainly be keen to score another good result.

The third match of the evening is a Dutch clash between Raymond van Barneveld and Danny Noppert. Barney impressed on Friday with a 6-0 win over Maik Kuivenhoven. The two also met at the Baltic Sea Darts Open earlier this year. Back then, Noppert won 6-5.

Then it’s the turn of the first German player when Gabriel Clemens takes on Michael van Gerwen. In the seven historic encounters with van Gerwen, the German Giant has never won, but in his interview after his first-round win against Martin Lukeman he announced that Antwerp was a perfect place to beat the Dutchman for the first time.

Can you catch Peter Wright in Belgium? The Scot surprisingly won the German Darts Championship last week. In the first round of the current tournament, Snakebite managed a hard-fought 6-5 victory over Brendan Dolan. Wright leads 11-1 in the direct comparison with Martin Schindler, whom he will meet in the evening session on Saturday, but the last meeting with the German dates back to March 2022.

Luke Humphries will also be in action in Antwerp on Saturday evening. For Cool Hand Luke, it is the first tournament since the World Series in “Down Under”. Back then, the Englishman travelled to Turkey for a family holiday. His opponent Ritchie Edhouse qualified for the second round on Friday with a 6-3 win against Daryl Gurney.

The penultimate match of the evening will see the third German, Ricardo Pietreczko, take to the stage. Pikuchu will face Andrew Gilding, who sent the Belgian crowd into mourning on Friday when he beat crowd favorite Dimitri van den Bergh 6-2.

The final match of the evening is between Luke Littler and Jermaine Wattimena. It will be Wattimena’s second match in Antwerp after beating Brian Raman 6-4 in the first round on Friday. In Littler, he will face an opponent who has never lost a match on Belgian soil. The Nuke won the Belgian Darts Open in Wieze earlier this season on his debut on the European Tour.

TV broadcast

The Flanders Darts Trophy will be broadcast live on TV on Sport1 and of course on DAZN. As is usual with European Tour tournaments, the Flanders Darts Trophy consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start at 1:00 p.m. every day, while the evening sessions start at 7:00 p.m. DAZN will broadcast the entire tournament, while Sport1 will cut back on Sunday afternoon. Then the Flanders Darts Trophy will only be broadcast from 2:00 p.m.

The first round will be played on Friday. Then the 16 qualifiers from the Order of Merit and the winners of the various qualifying tournaments will compete. The best 16 seeded players will enter the tournament in the second round on Saturday. The climax of the tournament follows on Sunday with the third round, which will be played in the afternoon. The quarterfinals, semifinals and final will take place on Sunday evening.

Distribution of prize money

This European Tour tournament will see prize money totaling £175,000 distributed among the 48 participants. They will receive at least £1,250 as an entry fee. The top 16 seeded players who will advance to the Flanders Darts Trophy from the second round onwards will receive £2,500 anyway.

They – like the 16 Order of Merit qualifiers who start in the first round – must win their first match for the prize money to be assessed for the world rankings and the other rankings. The winner of the 2024 Flanders Darts Trophy will ultimately walk away with the top prize of £30,000.
