“Bertrand, you were an incredible coach with whom I achieved so many great things and I will be eternally grateful to you for that.” But more importantly, you were a true friend, someone who was by my side on some of my best days as a professional but also on some of my worst days, not only as a player but also as a person. And you always supported me unconditionally. “You helped me play some of my best tennis matches and at the same time showed me that it’s all worthless if you can’t enjoy the process,” the Frenchwoman wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Garcia had worked with Perret from 2021 to October 2022 and then again since April 2023.

Under Perret, Garcia experienced an enormous upswing in 2022, rising from a place outside the top 50 to fourth place in the singles rankings – mainly due to an ultra-aggressive court position. In 2023 and 2024, things will go downhill again slightly, and the 30-year-old is currently ranked 30th.

Garcia and Perret split up unexpectedly in 2022 shortly before the WTA Finals, but they got back together in spring 2023. “Not everyone can understand my game and my way of training or really talk to me about it.” We have this connection with Bertrand. “We might as well use it to reach even higher,” Garcia said at the time. The team. Now the renewed separation also dies.

“Whoever gets the chance to work with you will feel incredibly lucky. “I’m happy that I have found not only a great coach, but also one of my best friends,” Garcia concluded.

At the US Open, Garcia lost in the first round.
