Unbelievable images at the US Open: Tennis star vomits on the court

Briton Jack Draper vomited on the court several times during his semi-final against world number one tennis player Jannik Sinner from Italy at the US Open. The 22-year-old was obviously not feeling well in the second set and cleaned the court with a towel afterwards.

In humid conditions, Draper tried to cool himself down when changing sides by putting ice towels around his neck and thighs and using colder air from a hose. The world number 25 entered the semifinals of the Grand Slam tournament in New York as a big underdog, which he ultimately lost 5:7, 6:7 (3:7), 2:6.

“I was a bit more nervous today,” said Draper. “I’m an anxious person. When everything comes together, I feel a bit nauseous on the court and feel bad when things get tight.” Sinner felt for the 22-year-old: “Jack and I know each other very well, we’re good friends. “It was a very physical match,” said the South Tyrolean. “Semifinals at a Grand Slam are something different. You feel a lot of tension.”

The 23-year-old can now hope for his second Grand Slam title after winning the Australian Open in January. In the final, Sinner will face the winner of the American duel between Alexander Zverev’s conqueror Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. Sinner is under special observation after two positive doping tests in the spring and his acquittal shortly before the tournament. (mp/dpa)
