UFC Eferding secures three late points against SV Garsten – Football Upper Austria – Results, tables and scorers from all Upper Austria leagues.

As part of the sixth matchday of the East Regional League, SV Garsten and UFC Eferding met yesterday evening. Both teams were able to achieve convincing victories on the matchday and wanted to build on that. While the home team surprisingly won the derby against St. Ulrich 3-1 and achieved their first win of the season, the guests were on seven points in the table after their convincing 3-0 win against Naarn.

Zero score in the first half

Garsten had its first big opportunity in the 3rd minute: Felix Bogner passed the ball across to Mehmetemin Güngör, whose shot only hit the boards. The Eferding defense seemed a bit disorganized in the opening minutes.

In the following minutes, the game continued to meander along without either team being able to create any clear chances. Eferding dominated the game at times, but were unable to complete their attacks successfully and mostly only had half-chances – often after forays down the sideline. In the 10th minute, Julian Tischler missed an opportunity for Garsten when his shot only hit his own teammate.

Eferding with the late double strike

The second half also remained goalless. The game changed somewhat, however, as Garsten became the better team and was able to create one or two dangerous chances. A stylish backheel pass in the 49th minute led to the first dangerous shot by the visitors. In the 56th minute, Stefan Thallinger had a huge chance for Garsten, but his shot rolled past the left side of the goal.

The party seemed to be heading for a goalless draw until UFC Eferding held on to the lead in the 80th minute. Alexander Meister received a through ball and lobbed the ball over the rushing goalkeeper to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. In the final minutes, Garstner tried to equalize and became more offensive. A free kick from Güngör in the 81st minute only hit the post. Finally, Dominic Hanisch put the lid on it in the 86th minute: after winning the ball on the halfway line, he lobbed the defender and then decided to go 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper. Garsten was standing very high and pushed for the equalizer; ultimately, they conceded the 2-0 decision. Bitter for the home team, as they could not capitalize on their own big chances and Eferding took advantage of their few big opportunities.

“It was a hard-fought victory, with certainly not the best performance.” After two or three minutes, Garsten had the first big chance, we were still a bit sleepy. After that, we had the party well under control until half-time, with several half-chances. In the second half, the game turned around a bit and Garsten had a few good opportunities. Thanks to the substitutes, we were able to decide the game in our favor in the final minutes. It was a very hard-fought match, a draw would probably have been fair.”
