RTL presenter taunts experts at NFL start: He has the perfect answer

For all NFL fans, the long wait is over: the new season of the National Football League has begun after a seven-month break.

And the opening game between the defending champions Kansas City Chiefs, including superstars Patrick Mahomes (28) and Travis Kelce (34), and the Baltimore Ravens had a number of highlights to offer. In the end, the Chiefs won 27:20 at home in Arrowhead Stadium on Friday night.

On Saturday night, the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers 34:29.

Banter between commentator and expert

With the start of the new season, RTL also welcomed German football fans to a new season. The Cologne-based private broadcaster has owned the free TV rights to the NFL since last year and broadcasts at least two games per match day.

In the first broadcast after the summer break, the best faces for NFL fans were there: Florian Schmidt-Sommerfeld (34), known as “Schmiso”, commented on the party, with expert and football coach Patrick “Coach” Esume (50) sitting at his side.

Everyone was clearly in a good mood because of their joy at the NFL return. And as always, there was also some funny banter within the crew, which RTL also shared in an online post.

“I wonder what Markus Kuhn ran in the 40-meter sprint”

During the first quarter, Schmidt-Sommerfeld and Esume talk about wide receiver Xavier Worthy (21) of the Kansas City Chiefs. He ran a record time of 4.21 seconds in the 40-meter sprint at the Combine, an event where NFL aspirants can show their skills to teams.

RTL then switched from the studio to the stadium in Kansas City to see former NFL professional Markus Kuhn (38). Following Worthy’s example, Schmidt-Sommerfeld asked him mockingly: “I wonder how long Markus Kuhn ran in the 40-meter sprint. I’m guessing around six or seven seconds.”

Kuhn did not let the cheeky remark go and immediately countered, including a nasty dig at “Schmiso”: “No respect. As a defensive tackle with 300 pounds [umgerechnet 136,08 Kilo] Running 4.89 seconds is something you couldn’t have done in your best days as a lower-class handball player.”

To explain: Defensive players, such as defensive tackles, are expected to be more powerful than quick or agility.

However, Kuhn did not seem to have his exact time completely in mind. The director told Schmidt-Sommerfeld that it should have been 4.97 seconds. He immediately took advantage of this: “Don’t cheat and add eight hundredths!”

Kuhn replied: “That’s not true, I’ll show you later. I’m fast, I look better, and I’m on site!” Schmidt-Sommerfeld responded self-ironically: “Anyone who is slower and doesn’t look better than me has a serious problem!”

Later, “Net-Man” Mitja Lafere (34) created video evidence: Kuhn had actually run 4.89 seconds. Schmidt-Sommerfeld and the director then humorously apologized to Kuhn.
