The market share for fairly traded coffee is still small in Germany. Only 5.6 out of 100 cups are fairly traded (as of 2022). To make this tasty and ethical coffee better known and as a great community event, the Fairtrade community of Wut is holding a so-called “coffee bet” on October 1st.

The press release from the steering group of the Fairtrade community of Anger in full:

Fury – On “International Coffee Day”, which is being celebrated in Germany for the 19th time as “Coffee Day”, as many cups of fair trade coffee as possible should be drunk in the municipality of Anger, but at least 400. The mayor bets against the steering group of the Fairtrade community of Angerthat the target of 400 cups will not be reached. If the people of Anger join in and achieve the ambitious goal together, Markus Winkler will support the projects of the association “Fair Miteinander im Pfarrverband Anger-Aufham-Piding” with a generous donation.

It works like this: Everyone can get involved, families, offices, companies, administrations, shops, clubs, schools, kindergartens, farm shops…. Each participating company receives a logo or poster with a large coffee cup and the words “We’re taking part” as a visual symbol. Interested parties can buy the coffee with the Fairtrade seal for the campaign – incidentally the most popular product in fair trade – either themselves, from a One World Shop (for example in Piding on Thomasstrasse at 9 a.m. Wednesday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. or on Marktstrasse in Teisendorf) or from the Wolfgruber Bakery.

The bet starts on October 1st at 00:00

On the day of the “coffee bet” on Tuesday, October 1st, you can enjoy fair trade coffee in the “Blütenzauber” flower shop on the village square, in the “Café Luggi” on the town hall square, at Wolfgruber Brotkultur and at the Kamml organic farm in Aufham. Every cup of fair trade coffee consumed will be reported to the steering group by email on October 1st from midnight to 5 p.m.: [email protected]

All businesses, inns or those who would like to participate in this day with their organization and do not yet have Fairtrade coffee in their range can collect a coffee for a small donation through the association “Fair Together in the Anger-Aufham-Piding Parish Association” and from Wednesday, September 11th at Blütenzauber at Dorfplatz 31 in Anger (The store is accessible despite the construction site). Each participating organization will also receive a poster with their logo there.

The steering group would be delighted if this turned out to be a really great community event and would ask that you spread the word; creative ideas are also very welcome.
