Summer final spurt in the outdoor pools in the district of Dillingen

Summer final spurt in the outdoor pools in the district of Dillingen

All’s well that ends well – these words could be used to describe this year’s outdoor pool season in the district of Dillingen, in keeping with William Shakespeare. Given the sunny weeks that have passed, most readers will have forgotten the lousy start in spring. “The start of the season at the Eichwaldbad was indeed terrible,” says the head of the Donau-Stadtwerke Dillingen-Lauingen, Wolfgang Behringer. It rained a lot in May and June. The start of the season was really bad, admits Behringer.

The plant manager assumes that the weather will still be good for swimming until next Sunday, September 8th. “That’s why we hope that we can still break the 90,000 visitor mark,” says Behringer. This would significantly exceed the number of visitors from last year, which was 85,000 at the Dillinger Eichwaldbad. “We had a good outdoor pool season,” says the plant manager.

The Eichwaldbad and the Dillinger indoor pool have a deficit of around 750,000 euros annually

One thing does not change even if the attendance is good. The operation of the Eichwaldbad and the Dillinger indoor pool is tearing a hole in the municipal coffers. The deficit for the two pools is around 750,000 euros, explains Behringer. Due to rising energy and personnel costs, this is not getting any smaller. Swimmers can now slowly prepare for the start of the indoor pool season. The facility at Ziegelstrasse 10 opens on Monday, September 23rd, but there will be no public swimming on that day. On Tuesday, September 24th, there will be senior swimming from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and family swimming from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The entrance prices can be found on the dsdl.de website under the Swimming Pools section.

The Wertingen outdoor pool on Judenberg will also be opening for the last time this year on Sunday. Verena Beese from the Wertingen city administration also recalled the bad start to the season when asked. If it were to close on Sunday evening, however, one could draw a positive conclusion. “Around 40,000 bathers will have visited the Wertingen outdoor pool this year,” predicts Beese. It was not a bad year. I am the opposite. Last year around 33,000 bathers came to the municipal outdoor pool in Wertingen.

The record year in Lauterbach was 2018 with 24,000 visitors

The third outdoor pool in the Dillingen district is located on Badstrasse in Lauterbach. The bathing season there also ended next Sunday. Since the weather was still very good at the end of the season, the number of visitors from last year could have been reached quickly, says the municipality of Buttenwiesen. By Sunday, around 19,500 bathers will have visited the Lauterbach outdoor pool in the 2024 season. This is “an impressive number of visitors” despite the initially mixed weather. Last year, the lifeguard welcomed around 21,000 visitors. 2018 was a record year for Lauterbach with more than 24,000 visitors. Overall, one could speak of a good bathing season again this year.
