Explorer7 – Windows 7 Explorer shell for Windows 11, 10 and 8.1

Explorer7 – Windows 7 Explorer shell for Windows 11, 10 and 8.1

There is a new project currently in beta called Explorer7. It is based on tihiys’ old project “Windows 7 Explorer on Windows 8” and has now been further developed for Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Currently, Windows 8.1 is fully supported and Windows 11 and Windows 10 are supported. There is still a need for development. There will only be an x64 version of this project. If you have the old Explorer shell as a view again, you should read the included Readme.txt carefully. Backup or a standalone virtual machine would of course be an advantage.

In order to transfer all data from the old explorer.exe, a Windows 7 ISO is required. Thanks to John-Boy, you can always find a current one in our forum. Then the import me.reg must be executed and the ex7forw8.exe then starts the patcher.

The Windows 7 ISO is then specified in the “Specify folder” selection. The Windows 7 shell can then be used via “Use Windows 7 Explorer”. This is just an excerpt from the Readme. Read it after downloading. The project, which many people have worked on, is very special, but interesting nonetheless. Over time, further improvements will certainly be made. Because it is already difficult to implement this. If you are interested:
